Helping The Addicted
This can be a lifetime’s work. For many, even after an experience and a
relationship with Jesus something to which they will continue to struggle with.
The difficulty as always will be for those on the outside understanding this and
not allowing themselves to be overly affected by the failures. I can only speak
from my own experiences of working with the addicted for over ten years. What I
have learnt is that it must be about relationships, whether with the homeless on
the streets or those in accommodation. Also for many as for me sometimes it will
be a daily struggle. In addition, learning that relapse is a part of the process
and mistakes must be learned from and the experiences built upon.
Besides the ministry of The Way I have worked in Worthing for the Worthing
Churches Homeless Projects; Yeldall Manor, a Drug rehabilitation centre in
Berkshire; a small charity in Reading, FAITH Christian Group and more recently
in Bournemouth with Faithworks Wessex. In November 2008 we moved to Kosova to
take up a position in Krushe Vogel. The vision and passion for drug education/
treatment however remains.

May God bless us with discomfort at easy answers, half truths, and superficial
relationships, so that we may live from deep within our hearts.
May God bless us with anger at injustice, oppression, and exploitation of
people, so that we may work for justice, freedom and peace.
May God bless us with tears to shed for those who suffer from pain, rejection,
starvation and war so that we may reach out our hands to comfort them and turn
their pain into joy.
And may God bless us with enough foolishness to believe that we can make a
difference in this world, so that we can do what others claim cannot be done.
